Frontline Humanitarian Toolbox - Online Learning Platform | DTS

Supporting effective programme delivery

Frontline Humanitarian Toolbox (FHT) is an online learning platform for Syrian aid workers. It was developed in partnership with Norwegian Refugee Council to support effective programme delivery in the region.

With Near-Life™ CREATOR you can easily create your own scalable, immersive scenarios. Our authoring tool is easy to use, cloud-based and compatible with your LMS. If you need extra help, we can provide full-service support to get your project off the ground.

More than 6.6 million people have been displaced inside Syria since the conflict started in 2011. Access to affected populations is one of the most significant factors disrupting the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Despite these challenges, NRC has reached communities in need through partnerships, using remote management techniques. This approach requires NRC to develop a network of trusted local humanitarian partners and to provide them with ongoing support to ensure effective programme delivery.

The remote management context means that face-to-face contact with partner staff is extremely limited, and impossible in many locations. Conventional training is therefore not always possible or appropriate.

Overcoming geographical restrictions

FHT uses  Near-Life™ technology to provide an interactive, digital role-play experience to learners that are unable to attend face-to-face training. The course is divided into four modules aimed at giving a basic grounding in humanitarian principles, situational awareness, personal security and stress management. Each module includes an interactive scenario.

Filmed on location in Jordan, and scripted in partnership with aid workers based in the region, the scenarios are designed to put the learning into practice. Having a safe space to learn and make mistakes has been proven to improve knowledge retention. Learning by doing ensures that when similar situations arise in the field, learners will be more likely to respond appropriately.

Breaking the language barrier

Course materials, including the interactive scenarios, podcasts and other media, are delivered in Arabic to ensure that those who need it can benefit most.

As with other Near-Life™ learning platforms, the ability to deliver training in multi-language formats is of huge benefit.  This means that innovative training can reach the largest audience possible.
